Magic tricks and illusions are fun because you make it appear that something that seems impossible has occurred. The Automatic Card Discovery Illusion is no different. In this trick, it appears that you will be able to choose your spectator's card from a deck and turn it over, all behind your back. Keep reading to learn how to perform this illusion.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of playing cards
  1. Step 1

Spread a deck of cards face down. You can spread them on a table, or continue holding them. Ask a spectator to pull out one card.

  2. Step 2

Square the rest of the deck and turn around. Tell your spectator to look at his card and also show it to the rest of the audience, if there is one. While this happens, turn the deck over and flip over the top card. Now, both the top and bottom cards have their backs showing, but the cards in the middle are all face up.

  3. Step 3

Turn back around to face your spectator and tell them to put their card back in the deck face down. Make sure you keep the deck square so they can't see that the other 50 cards in the deck are face up. Because the top card is face down, they will think that the rest of the cards are too.

  4. Step 4

Put your hands behind your back and flip over the card that you turned in Step 2 again. Now all of the cards in the deck will be facing the same way, except for your spectator's chosen card. Spread the cards out on the table and pick out the one card that is facing the opposite way from the rest. Ask your spectator is this was the right card.

Tips & Warnings
  • When doing tricks like this one, with reversed cards, it is best to use a deck with a white border around the back design to avoid being found out.
