Step 1
Get in position. Loosen your knees and bend them slightly. Lean forward slightly. Make sure your head is looking straight down at the ball.
-
Step 2
Slowly raise the golf club up until it is perpendicular to your body. Imagine a clock where the golf ball is at 6 o'clock, your head is at 12 o'clock and your golf club is at 9 o'clock. There is no need to perform a fast backswing--use a slow motion.
-
Step 3
Make sure the toe of the golf club is pointed straight up. To achieve this, left-handed golfers must rotate their wrists slightly to the left during the course of the backswing.
-
Step 4
Position the golf club toward your target. The shaft of the club must be parallel to the point you want to golf ball to hit.
-
Step 5
Rotate your hips. As you swing the golf club up the rest of the way, rotate your hips to the left.
-
Step 6
Tuck your right shoulder underneath your chin. As you wrap the club around your neck, your left shoulder will come near your chin. Position your chin so your shoulder fits right under it. This allows for a smooth finish to your backswing.
-
Step 7
Swing by reversing the steps. After a left-handed golfer has tucked her right shoulder under her chin, the backswing is complete and it's time to swing forward. The swing forward is a reverse of the backswing, except in a more fluid and faster manner.
