Step 1
Stand about 8 feet away from your partner facing each other with both knees bent and your lacrosse stick raised in the air like a baseball bat. Both hands are gripping the base of the stick. Your partner is standing in a similar position except that his stick is horizontal.
-
Step 2
Walk toward your partner beginning on the left foot. As you get closer to your partner, he will raise his stick into a vertical position. Complete Step 2 at the same time as Step 3.
-
Step 3
Pull back on your lacrosse stick as you move toward your partner, giving the impression that you are going to make a pass or try taking a shot. This causes them to turn their stick into a defensive position. The base of your partner's stick is parallel with the bottom of their chin at the end of Step 3.
-
Step 4
Sweep your stick from right to left across the width of your body, faking a pass. The lacrosse stick is now vertical in front of you still held by both hands.
-
Step 5
Swerve past your partner bringing the lacrosse stick over to the left side of your body. This step is the tail end of Step 4 and both steps follow each other in rapid succession. Your partner has now moved to a full upright position.
-
Step 6
Run past your partner, inches from his side as you dodge his attempted defensive stance. This is the face dodge technique.
-
Step 7
Practice the face dodge technique in a variety of starting positions beginning on different feet and approaching partner or opponent from different angles.
