Krav maga, or "close combat" in Hebrew, is a powerful martial art developed in Israel and used by Israeli military forces. While krav maga is not considered a sport and there are no organized competitions, it is quickly gaining popularity as a form of real-life self defense. Learning how to use the inside the fence technique is key in beginning krav maga.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the inside the fence technique in krav maga to block a variety of forward punches. This technique can be used with either arm as needed.

  2. Step 2

Begin in the basic krav maga neutral position. Stand with your knees slightly bent and your dominant leg one step behind you. Place your hands up near your face in defense position with you palms open facing one another.

  3. Step 3

Make contact with the attacker's hand as it thrusts forward towards you. The contact should begin with the tips of your fingers striking his knuckles. Push forward hard against the force of his punch, redirecting the punch away from your face and body.

  4. Step 4

Move your hand further up the attacker's arm as he follows through on the punch. You should tilt your head out as you complete the krav maga inside the fence technique as well, to prevent an accidental strike to the head.

  5. Step 5

Practice this and all krav maga moves in slow motion until you perfect every step of the move. Only once you have mastered the inside the fence technique should you begin to work on speed.
