A form of hand-to-hand combat created in Israel, krav maga, or "close combat" in Hebrew, is a common fighting method used by Israeli military forces. Krav maga is gaining popularity in America as a form of real-life self-defense; however it is not considered a sport, there are no organized competitions and students do not wear uniforms. Learning to escape from a headlock is an important part of krav maga training.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use this krav maga technique whenever your attacker has placed you into a headlock and your are positioned at his side. While working on this technique, prevent neck injuries by going with the flow and allowing your body to move with the movements of your attacker.

  2. Step 2

Pull your head down and press your chin as firmly into your chest as the headlock allows. Lift your arm which is closest to the attacker's body, wrapping it up over her back. Place your hand between her neck and the shoulder closest to you, placing the palm of your hand on the front of her face. Your forefinger should be directly under her nose.

  3. Step 3

Grab the attacker's hair at the forehead if it is long enough, instead of placing your hand on the face, as this will allow you a better grip for pulling.

  4. Step 4

Lift your outside arm high, forming a fist with your hand and swing in hard and fast, striking him in the groin. At the same time pull the hair back or pull with your upper hand, forcing his head backwards and freeing yourself from the headlock. Use your krav maga techniques to further debilitate your attacker or use the opening as a means of escape.
