Used by Israeli military forces in hand-to-hand combat, krav maga, meaning "close combat" in Hebrew, is one of the most powerful martial arts. Krav maga is not considered a sport, so students do not wear special clothing and there are no organized competitions; however, it is gaining popularity as a form of real-life self-defense. Learning to protect yourself against a forward stab is an important technique in krav maga.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Lift your arms in defense position, prepared for an attack. As the attacker thrusts forwards with the knife, redirect the forward stabbing motion by turning your body sideways and pushing your forearm down against hers. Make sure that your weight is pushing forward and down so that the knife is not redirected to another part of your body.

  2. Step 2

Catch the attacker's wrist as you push down, preventing an upward swing with the knife. Make sure that you turn your arm so that your elbow is near his, and lower your elbow down towards the ground, locking his forearm in place.

  3. Step 3

Begin striking to the body, neck or face of your attacker using other krav maga techniques while you have control of her arm, preventing another forward stab. Use your opening to free the weapon from her hand by gripping her wrist with both hands and twisting out hard.

  4. Step 4

Pull his arm towards his back as you twist the wrist, forcing him to lean forward slightly. Push him away from the fallen weapon as you complete the end of this move. As you come around the back of his body, kick him in the back of the legs to bring him to the ground. Keep his arm pinned against his back and use this moment to call for help.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always prepare for the worst, one of the most basic lessons in krav maga. Never assume that your opponent is unarmed just because you cannot see his weapon. Knives are easy to conceal, and you can quickly find yourself with painful or even fatal stab wounds if you do not have a constant guard up.
