Step 1
Choose a basic kite for kiteboarding. For the best control, easiest launch and safety, the beginning kiteboarder should pick a medium-sized kite. Two basic types of kites are the "C" kite and the "bow" kite--both offered in a range of sizes. C kites are more affordable while bow kites offer the easiest launch.

Step 2
Choose a board for kiteboarding based on your skill level. The two types of kiteboards are directional and asymmetrical boards. Suited for the beginner, directional boards are light, buoyant and wide. They switch directions with ease. Asymmetrical boards offer a faster ride and are made to perform tricks well.

Step 3
Buy a harness for kiteboarding: the waist harness or the seat harness. The waist harness offers better mobility and is affordable; the seat harness is supportive and controls cleanly.
-
Step 4
Unload and unfold your kite. Carefully remove the kite from your stuff sack. Unfold it completely and use a hand pump to inflate the kite. Attach the lines and bar to your kite securely and launch the kite.
