American kenpo karate may be the most commonly taught form of martial arts in the United States today and takes it's influence from both Japanese and Chinese styles, including tai chi, jiu jitsu and kung fu. With more than 700 self-defense moves as well as strikes and kicks, the kenpo parting wing technique is just one of many movements you can begin practicing today.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the kenpo parting wing technique as a method of self-defense from a double-handed push to your chest. While there are many techniques to defend against a push, this technique applies when you can get your hands up between your attacker's arms.

  2. Step 2

Lift your arms up between your attacker's arms as he is coming forward into the push. Cross your wrists one over the other as you lift so that as you reach up you can more forcefully pull your hands apart to deflect the push, sending his arms outward.

  3. Step 3

Stop his forward motion by forcefully pushing the heel of your left hand in towards your attackers face. As the attacker pushes forward, he will fall into your hand and be moved to her right. Pick up your right hand, swinging back to gain momentum, and then throw a fast, hard hand sword into the attacker's ribcage using a chopping motion with the side of your hand.

  4. Step 4

Pull your right arm back to chamber as your throw another hand sword with your left hand to the left side of the attacker's neck. Quickly move your straight left arm down the body to check or block in case the attacker counters with a knee or a kick. Complete the kenpo parting wing technique with a punch with your right hand to his solar plexus.
