Step 1
Use the ushiro jine arm lock in judo competition or as an effective method of self-defense when someone grabs your neck from behind. Whether held by an attacker or a judo opponent, he will have on arm wrapped around your neck, holding you in a lock by grabbing his own wrist with the opposite hand. It is difficult to free yourself from this hold as you cannot pull down on his arm.
-
Step 2
Slip your fingers into the space between your opponent's forearm and your neck. While you cannot pull down, you can roll his arm out slightly to create a space. One hand should be down near your opponent's wrist and the other near the elbow.
-
Step 3
Drop your shoulder which is opposite the attacker's elbow as you step out with your outside foot. Lean forward hard, bringing your attacker with you. This motion will force his elbow out, loosening the grip on your head and neck, allowing you space to pull back and out of the lock. Make sure that you maintain a firm hold on his arm as you complete this move so that you can move on to the armlock.

Step 4
Complete the judo ushiro jine armlock by straightening out your body and pulling your opponent's arm back, forcing it to twist painfully and dropping him to his knees.
