Step 1
Use the tai o'tosha body throw either as a competitive judo technique or as an effective self-defense method. This move is extremely useful when an attacker or opponent is grabbing for your neck or chest.
-
Step 2
Lift your left arm as your opponent or attacker reaches for your throat or chest. Wrap your wrist along the inside of his and grip his forearm from the top, pushing down. Lift your right arm and grip firmly under his armpit, pushing up. If possible, grip his clothing tightly under the armpit as well.
-
Step 3
Step your right leg across your attacker's body so that the back of your right leg crosses in front of his right shin. This may be the most important part of the move, as it will force her to trip over your leg as you swing and drop her body.
-
Step 4
Complete the judo body throw by pulling down hard on your opponent's left arm and pushing up against his right armpit, forcing him to trip, spin and fall to the ground. In competition, use this opening to pin your opponent to the ground. In self-defense, use this time to escape and call for help.

on 12/15/2008 The throw is actually called tai otoshi, body drop. Some important elements are missing from this description, like the position of your right foot. Although step 4 says to use your right arm to push on your opponent's right armpit, it typically pushes on his left side.
