Step 1
Grasp your opponent high on the chest with your right hand (reverse grasping sides if you are left handed) while getting a firm hold on his elbow with your left hand.
-
Step 2
Push back sharply with your right hand while simultaneously pulling down on your opponent's arm with your left. This action should begin to break your opponent's posture.
-
Step 3
Step in quickly between your opponent's feet with your left foot. Make sure this foot is planted firmly in place as it will function as your foundation in the next part of the technique.
-
Step 4
Hook your right leg from inside around your opponent's left leg. This is where the back of your calf should be at the back of your opponent's knee.
-
Step 5
Sweep your right leg straight back as you continue to exert upper body force. This is the reaping portion of the judo throw.
-
Step 6
Follow through in order to establish a superior mat positioning. This completes the judo technique ko uchi gari.
