The scissor sweep is one example of an advanced jiu jitsu move used to maintain control from the guard position.

From Quick Guide: Learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the jiu jitstu scissor sweep when you are on the ground with your opponent in the guard position. When you have him in the guard, you are flat on your back and he is on his knees facing you, with his palms resting on your chest. Your legs should be wrapped as firmly as possible around his waist with your ankles locked behind him.

  2. Step 2

Lift your right arm and slip your hand around the left side of his neck. Grip the cloth of his collar firmly as you grip the sleeve on his right arm with your left hand. At this point your opponent will lift his left leg to start his guard pass.

  3. Step 3

Release your ankle grip and lift your hips high before he has the chance to lock your leg with his arm. Push against his uplifted leg and roll your body onto your left side, maintaining the grip on his collar.

  4. Step 4

Slide your shin in, bending at the knee, until it is flat against his stomach. Flex your foot so that you can hook your toes around the bottom of his ribcage.

  5. Step 5

Scissor your legs, bringing your left leg in against your opponents left knee and bringing your right leg in, pulling with your hooked foot. As you scissor, pull his collar down towards your left shoulder and lift your upper body slightly, pulling him down to the mat.

  6. Step 6

Finish this advanced jiu jitsu move by using the momentum of his fall to roll him over. You should land with him pinned as you straddle his chest.
