A form of martial arts which mixes jujutsu and judo, Brazilian jui jitsu focuses it's technique on opponent domination with a series of choke holds, joint locks and ground fighting. Quickly becoming a popular, competitive combat sport in the United States, it is also used to teach self-defense technique. The ankle lock is just one example of many advanced jiu jitsu moves.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the jiu jitsu ankle lock when you are on the floor in the guard position. Your opponent should be on his back while you are on your knees facing him. His legs should be wrapped and locked around your waist as you are leaning forward with your palms flat on his chest.

  2. Step 2

Allow your opponent to pull you up towards her head, a common jiu jitsu tactic when in this position. As she is pulling you up, bring yourself up onto your feet with your hips high in the air and spread your knees, trying to break his lock.

  3. Step 3

Bring both of your palms flat on the ground to one side of his head and start to walk your hands forward. Bring your legs as far up as you can, bringing his legs with you. Swing your right knee up and press your shin down on the inside of his knee when his leg lifts so high that it is almost touching the ground. Your knee and toes should touch the mat while your shin pins his leg down.

  4. Step 4

Bend her opposite leg at the knee, bringing the heel up and under your left armpit. Weave your left hand around the back of her calf and hold both of your hands together, locking his ankle. Deepen the lock by turning your left wrist out and lifting her knee off of the ground.
