Combining the principles of judo and jujutsu, Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial art which focuses on gaining a dominant position over ones opponent. Using a series of choke holds, joint locks and ground fighting techniques, jiu jitsu has become a popular combat sport in the United States. The no hold barred guard pass is just one example of many techniques in advanced jui jitsu.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use this advanced jui jitsu technique when you are on the floor in the guard position. Your opponent will be on his back and you will be on your knees facing him. When his legs are wrapped around your waist with ankles locked behind you, this move will help you to break his hold, opening his legs.

  2. Step 2

Lean forward and press your palms into your opponent's chest. Pick your feet up, curling your toes so that you are prepared to stand. Push down with your palms and jump quickly, landing your feet on either side of your opponent's waist.

  3. Step 3

Squeeze your opponents legs into your sides and armpits as you lift your body quickly and push your hips forward as hard as you can to break his legs open, releasing his grip. It is important that you keep a firm hold on his legs, forcing his lower body to lift with you. If his legs are allowed to rest towards the ground, he can quickly and easily counter your move and take you to the ground once again.

  4. Step 4

Hold your opponent's left leg firmly as you release the grip on his right leg. Bring your left arm around the back of his right leg and push to the side as you allow your body to fall to the ground. Your right arm will end up pinning his right leg to the ground. Use your free left arm to hold his shoulder down.

  5. Step 5

Practice this advanced jui jitsu move slowly until you perfect every step. Once you have mastered the move, you can apply it quickly and effortlessly to gain control over your opponent.
