Homecoming mums are a tradition involving creativity and school spirit. Girls and boys in both junior and senior high wear Homecoming mums with various homecoming and school spirit messages during the homecoming season, especially during the homecoming pep rally and game. The personalized messages you choose make your homecoming mum stand out from the rest.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Number 9 ribbon
  • Number 3 ribbon
  • Letter stickers
  • Pipe cleaner
  1. Step 1

Choose number 9 ribbons as streamers and number 3 ribbons for braided chains that match your school colors. The number of ribbons you use depends on the size of the mum. Use 18- to 60-inch ribbons for single, double or triple mums. Choosing the ribbon first allows you to know how much embellishment your mum can support.

  2. Step 2

Decide what messages to put on your mum ribbons. Standards include "Homecoming," the year, your name, school name or mascot, boyfriend name and classification such as "Senior."

  3. Step 3

Use matching glitter letter stickers to spell the message vertically on the ribbons or braided chains. Add football and other spirit or school centered stickers on the ribbons.

  4. Step 4

Add your school name or initials to the actual mum as another option. For example, put SHS on the mum for Spring High School using matching pipe cleaner you buy at a hobby store like Michaels.
