The heel toe slide is a basic hip hop move that you can use as the foundation for more advanced moves, or you can work it up into your own signature move. Though not too difficult, the heel toe slide takes a little coordination and balance to learn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find the different positions for the heel toe slide. You can either turn your feet out to a little less than a 45-degree angle or you can turn them in at the same angle. You must have your weight on the heel on one foot and on the ball of the other foot. Practice the different positions to make sure you're comfortable and balanced in each one.

  2. Step 2

Work on your heel toe slide by starting with your feet turned out. Put your weight on the toe of your right foot and on your left foot's heel. Bend your right leg so your right heel comes off the ground. Pull your left toe off the ground.

  3. Step 3

Transfer your weight smoothly so you're now standing on your left toe and your right heel, with your left heel and your right toe off the ground.

  4. Step 4

Move back and forth a few times until the movement feels natural. Your movements in the heel toe slide should look smooth and natural. If they don't, keep practicing until your body is relaxed when you do the footwork.

  5. Step 5

Add the other angle to your footwork by turning your toes in when you're balanced on one heel and one toe. Keep the same weight distribution and turn your toes back out.

  6. Step 6

Play with changing the weight distribution when you turn your toes in to see what you can build with this basic hip hop movement. Also play with traveling using this basic step.

  7. Step 7

Put on some music. Practice the heel toe slide and any other hip hop moves you know to help you develop your timing and rhythm.
