The glide is a basic hip hop move that you can customize, combining it with other toprock moves to create your own signature approach to the dance. The glide is a traveling step that you can use to travel a short distance or for many feet.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Do the Basic Glide

  1. Step 1

Master the heel toe slide before you work on the glide. For the heel toe slide, you keep your weight on one heel and one toe, and pivot your feet in to create the sliding motion.

  2. Step 2

Start the glide with your feet turned out. Put your weight on your right heel and left toe.

  3. Step 3

Turn your toes in and switch your weight so you're now on your right toe and left heel.

  4. Step 4

Pivot your feet back out and switch your weight again. If you do the glide correctly, you should travel to one side.

  5. Step 5

Reverse the movement to go back to your starting point.

  6. Step 6

Add some pops to your glide and blend it with your freestyle hip hop moves to make the glide your own.

  7. Do Toprock Gliding

  8. Step 1

Stand with your weight on your right leg, which should be underneath you. Flex your left leg and bring it forward off the ground in a kick.

  9. Step 2

Jump in place on your right leg as you kick with your left.

  10. Step 3

Land with your feet turned in and your left foot slightly in front of your right. Put your weight on your left heel and right toe.

  11. Step 4

Turn your toes out, keeping your weight distributed in the same way.

  12. Step 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4, this time kicking your right leg.

  13. Step 6

Take the toprock glide up to speed once you're comfortable with the basic footwork, and start incorporating it into your hip hop.
