After you master the easy version of the slip and slide hip hop move, it's time to practice the more advanced version. You can also polish up your basic slip and slide movements as you learn to do the more advanced dance move.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start in a natural stance with your feet right under your body and your weight equally distributed between them. Turn your toes out slightly for balance.

  2. Step 2

Put your weight on your toes and pivot both feet inward simultaneously so you're pigeon-toed.

  3. Step 3

Pivot your feet back to your starting position and transfer weight to one foot.

  4. Step 4

Lift your free foot, bending your knee and bringing it straight up like you do for the easy slip and slide move. Put your foot down.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 with the other leg.

  6. Step 6

Let your arms move naturally as you do the slip and slide move. Start by seeing where your arms want to go and then amplify that movement or add your own stylistic touches to it.

  7. Step 7

Put on some music and dance with your whole body. Your legs, torso, arms and even head should all be involved in the dance. Once the slip and slide footwork feels like second nature, consciously focus on dancing with different parts of your body to make sure they're all involved.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hip hop requires a relaxed body. When you move stiffly in hip hop dance, you look awkward and can't feel the music. If you notice that you're stiff or tense, stop trying to control your body and just focus on the footwork. You might want to slow down or speed up to relax yourself, depending on what's making you move stiffly.
