Things You'll Need:
- Hemp cord
- Scissors
- Tape or safety pin
-
Step 1
Cut two lengths of hemp cord. The lengths will need to be the same size and three times longer than the bracelet that you want to make.
-
Step 2
Hold the two pieces of hemp together and fold them in half. Tie a knot in the folded end of the hemp. To do this, take the end of the hemp wrap it around two fingers once and slip the end loop through the one on your fingers. Keep the loop at the end loose enough so that the end of the bracelet will be able to go through it.
-
Step 3
Secure your knotted hemp to begin working on it. You can either attached the looped end to something or tape it to a flat surface. You can also use a safety pin to pin the end to the leg of your pants to secure it so you can begin knotting.
-
Step 4
Separate the threads of the hemp. You want one thread on each side and two held together in the middle.
-
Step 5
Take the right hand thread and lay it across the two in the middle. The threads will look like a plus sign. Don't pull the right hand thread tight, you're going to use the loop created by this thread.
-
Step 6
Move the left hand thread over the end of the right hand one, under the two center threads and up through the loop created by the right hand cord. Take the two ends of the right and left hand cord and pull them tight against the knot that you created in Step 2.
-
Step 7
Reverse the steps and use the left hand cord first. Take the left hand thread this time and lay it across the middle threads creating the plus sign and the loop. Then take the right hand cord and slid it over the end of the left hand thread, under the middle threads and up through the loop created by the left hand thread. Pull tight.
-
Step 8
Repeat Steps 5 through 7 to create the square knot.
-
Step 9
Tie a knot in the end of the four cords when the bracelet is the length that you want it.
