Step 1
Hold the bo in an unassuming position with your hand down (wrist in ulnar deviation) and the long part of the staff resting against your back.
-
Step 2
Bring your arm (holding the staff) up as though you are about to punch the attacker. Then side step them at a 45-degree angle, while punching your arm forward, driving the bo into their solar plexus.
-
Step 3
Perform the same 45-degree angle move mentioned above, only swing your arm up aiming the bottom tip of your stick between the legs of your attacker.
-
Step 4
Raise the blunt end of the Hapkido staff and step forward while punching it into the face of your attacker. You may also aim for the eyes, nose, throat or solar plexus. This move utilizes the weight of your body into the strike.
-
Step 5
Sidestep your foe, striking the stomach before stepping in and grasping their arm (with your free arm.) The movement is like making two quick 45-degree steps (one to the outside of the punch, then one into your foe.) Once you have their arm, raise the staff (positioned under the armpit and across their body) behind their shoulder, while turning the wrist over.
-
Step 6
Hold the Hapkido staff like a cane. Once the attacker has closed in, drive the staff down (like stabbing garbage with a sharp pole) into the top of their feet.
-
Step 7
Flip the staff upwards (still holding it like a cane) hitting the groin with the tip of your bo while stepping backwards. Once you have distance between you and your foe, use the blunt end to stab at their face or slam the bo down onto his head.
