The ponytail is a classic hairstyle because it's both easy to create and convenient to wear. Wearing two side ponytails is just as easy and very popular for young girls. Create cute side ponytails and enjoy twice the convenience of the classic ponytail.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Part the hair in the middle. Slide the tip of a comb through the hair beginning at the forehead and work backward, separating the hair to either side as you go.

  2. Step 2

Brush the right hair section thoroughly, eliminating any bumps and gather hair at the middle point on the right side of the head, a few inches above the right ear.

  3. Step 3

Twist a hair elastic around the hair several times until secure.

  4. Step 4

Move a brush through the ponytail as a finishing touch.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the left side.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cute side ponytails are age-appropriate for young girls. Adults can also wear side ponytails when the weather is hot or they're doing household chores. Some women also like to wear their hair off the face when they're applying makeup, and side ponytails work well for this task.
  • Hair products such as gel and hairspray aren't usually necessary, especially for girls with long hair. Use hair pins to secure any stray hairs that can't quite reach the hair elastic where the ponytail is positioned.
  • Use hair elastics that don't have a metal fastener. "Ouchless" hair elastics, as they are called, are a safer choice for sports. If a ball hits a player in the head, any hard surface on a hair accessory could cut into the head.
