Consistency in your swing is essential to achieving any satisfaction or results in golf. This is achieved though a combination of mental focus and practice. Proper technique is necessary to ensure that you don't injure yourself due to the repetitive nature of the golf swing. It is critical not to over think golf, but to use the KISS method: keep it simple, stupid.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Record your current swing with a seven iron, pitching wedge and your driver using a video camera. Set up the equipment to ensure that you record the entire swing, from set up to the finish position.

  2. Step 2

Watch the video and look for any inconsistency between the different clubs. The swing should be identical for every club. The only difference should be the angle of bend in your back.

  3. Step 3

Check the distance between your body and the club grip. This is the most common area of inconsistency. The grip should always be one fist size away from your body, regardless of the club used. Follow the KISS method and resist the urge to complicate the golf swing.

  4. Step 4

Improve your consistency by improving your endurance. Incorporate weight lifting into your exercise routine to increase your stamina. Fatigue quickly erodes your technique over a round of golf and this definitely affects your performance.

  5. Step 5

Begin a yoga, palates or stretching regime to improve your flexibility. These practices help train your muscles into a fluid, smooth movement so that the golf swing become a natural and repetitive motion. It also reduces your risk of injury.

Tips & Warnings
  • Record your golf swing at regular intervals and watch it to check for inconsistencies and jerky movements. These may be a sign of muscle strain or injury. Be careful to ensure that you take care of small injuries early to avoid a larger problem later on. By following the KISS method, you perform more consistently and achieve the desired results.
