How to Hunt Whitetail Deer

Hunting whitetail deer is a seasonal sport that most hunters enjoy every year. Whitetail deer are abundant in the southern United and into the Midwest. Many states regulate the number of whitetail deer a hunter can remove from the population in particular areas.

  1. Step 1

    Obtain any and all permissions and permits from local authorities and landowners before hunting whitetail deer. Many areas are off-limits to hunters and are often nature preserves.

  2. Step 2

    Determine the method you want to use to hunt the whitetail deer. Many hunters prefer rifle hunting whereas others enjoy bow hunting whitetail deer. Pack a gear bag with all of the essentials for the particular method of hunting.

  3. Step 3

    Dress for the hunting season. Whitetail deer season lasts into cool weather months and camouflage wool articles of clothing are best.

  4. Step 4

    Use a tree stand to hunt high above the whitetail deer paths and fields. A tree stand helps you remove yourself assist the hunter in removing himself from the environment to avoid spooking the deer.

  5. Step 5

    Spot the whitetail deer with a pair of field glasses or spotting scope. Keep the animal in view for as long as possible before you take any shot.
