Things You'll Need:
- Yarn
- Crochet hooks
-
Step 1
Start by chaining several stitches and joining them with a slip stitch. A pattern that you're using may give you instructions on the number of stitches you choose to chain together. If you are making a hat, usually eight stitches are plenty.
-
Step 2
Chain a few more stitches after joining your initial chain with a slip stitch. The number of stitches you crochet in this step depends on the stitch you plan to use as you crochet in your spiral. If you will use single crochet, only chain one. If you will use double crochet, chain two. Triple crochet will require you to chain three.
-
Step 3
Begin to crochet in the loop stitch nearest your crochet hook. Crochet the correct stitch, whether single, double or triple crochet.
-
Step 4
Continue to crochet around your loop. Use the crochet stitch you started with or the one that is dictated by your pattern.
-
Step 5
Crochet your piece into a spiral by continuing to crochet in a circle without stopping or turning. This will give you a nice spiral piece without any evidence of a seam.
