Rice pilaf is a very simple side dish that goes great with almost any main course. This dish is made up of basic ingredients that can be found at your local grocery store. Follow these tips to get ingredients for an easy rice pilaf.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White basmati rice
  • Chicken stock
  • Diced carrots
  • Diced onions
  • Green peppers (optional)
  • Red bell peppers (optional)
  • Celery (optional)
  • Mushrooms (optional)
  1. Step 1

Decide how much rice pilaf you will need to accompany your main course. When cooking rice, 1 cup typically serves 2 people.

  2. Step 2

Visit your local grocery store and locate the rice for your rice pilaf. White basmati rice is a basic white rice that can be found in boxes or bags in the rice and pasta aisle.

  3. Step 3

Find the chicken stock in the soup aisle of the grocery store. To determine how much chicken stock you will need, double the amount of rice you plan to cook. For example, if you are preparing 1 cup of rice, you will need 2 cups of chicken stock.

  4. Step 4

Locate carrots and onions in the produce section of your grocery store. You can also purchase these items at farmer's markets or produce stands. Since both will need to be diced, you can save time by purchasing pre-cut versions of each.

Tips & Warnings
  • Fresh vegetables, such as green and red bell peppers, celery and mushrooms can add a variety of colors and textures to your rice pilaf. These vegetables should be diced to about the same size as the carrots and onions.
  • Be sure to wash all fresh vegetables before dicing them.
