Car stereos are one of the biggest aftermarket items installed in cars. They are easy to install at home if you have a little knowledge, can follow instructions and have some patience. How the stereo is taken out and put back in is important to how the rest of the console fits back together.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check the holding screws you removed from your old stereo to see if they will fit. Also, check for corrosion, stripping or other damage. If they fit and there is no damage, consider using the same screws. The new stereo comes with them, but the old ones are guaranteed to fit better.

  2. Step 2

Connect the wiring harness to the new car stereo following the instructions included with it and in relation to how the old stereo was removed. It is important to get the wiring all hooked up to the correct place in order for the stereo to work properly and to avoid blowing fuses and causing other problems.

  3. Step 3

Set the car stereo deck into the spot it belongs and hold it there lining up the screws holes where the holding screws go. Place the holding screws into place and screw them as far as you can with your hands. This will hold the stereo in place until you move on to Step 4.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the screws using the appropriate screwdriver. This could be a flat-head, Philips, Allen or star tip, depending upon the screw. Tighten the holding screws all the way down until they are flush against the metal frame. This should hold the stereo in securely. Reinstall the console and you should be ready to move on to the speaker installation.
