Each year, thieves steal thousands of cars. To protect our cars, we buy car alarms. If you are installing your own car alarm, you need to wire the CPU into it. Here are a few steps on how to do just that.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install the siren under the hood according to the manufacturer's directions. Keep the siren in a place where it will not receive exposure to heat or higher temperatures such as near the engine. Most alarms will come with 4 to 6 alarm sounds for you to choose from.

  2. Step 2

Connect the wiring harness into the CPU. Take care not to bend any of the prongs inside the connecting part of the wire harness.

  3. Step 3

Identify and connect the following wires: Red--power; black--ground; white--parking light output; yellow--ignition output; orange--sound alarm output; gray--siren output; blue--door lock; and green--door unlock. These are all important to know and identify as you install the remainder of the car alarm into your vehicle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always read and become familiar with the installation and user manual to the car alarm. There is usually a number to call for assistance in one of these manuals.
