When you are sitting around a card table, it's always helpful to have someone who knows how to shuffle and cut the deck. The games will go faster and it won't feel like amateur hour as everyone tries in vain to shuffle the cards. Here's how to perform a Strip Cut, which can used in many card games, including poker.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of cards
  1. Step 1

Lay the deck of cards horizontally on the table in front of you.

  2. Step 2

Lift the deck of cards off the table using your thumb on one side and your middle finger on the other.

  3. Step 3

Place your other hand on the top portion of the cards. Using your thumb and index finger on each side of the cards, pull (or strip) the top section of cards off the top. At this point, you'll have two unequal piles in your hand, one large and one small.

  4. Step 4

Drop the smaller packet of cards on the table.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the portion of stripping the top packet of cards off the larger deck and then drop them on top of the cards on the table. Continue this until you are out of cards.

  6. Step 6

Push the cards together to complete the strip cut.

Tips & Warnings
  • The faster you perform the strip cut, the more impressive it is to watch. Try to improve your speed each time you do it.
  • When playing poker, change out the decks every hour. Not only will it remove the nasty cards from your beer-drinking, Cheeto-eating friends, but it will keep the game honest. Then combine a strip cut with riffle shuffling on the new deck.
