Whether you are a magician, a frequent card player, or just looking for a way to break the ice at a party, knowing how to handle a deck of cards is always impressive. Here's one trick called the Off Table Straight Rifle which will be sure to leave your friends slack-jawed.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Deck of cards
  1. Step 1

Hold the cards so that the top of the deck is in the palm over your hand (numbers facing out). Your thumb is across the top of the deck and your middle and ring finger is along the bottom. Curl your index finger against the back of the cards, applying pressure.

  2. Step 2

Extend your other hand so that it is in front of the cards. Keep this hand open.

  3. Step 3

Riffle down the deck of cards by gently releasing your thumb while simultaneously applying pressure with your index finger. Stop once you get about halfway. This will split the deck.

  4. Step 4

Match the positioning of the cards with your opposite hands (Step 1). At this point, each hand should have half of the cards in the same position.

  5. Step 5

Turn your hands so that your palms (and the cards) are facing down. You'll be looking at the back of your hands.

  6. Step 6

Release cards on each side one by one by applying pressure with your index finger and gently releasing your thumb. Remember to stay off the table. Because of the grip you have on the cards, they will overlap with out falling.

  7. Step 7

Push the cards together after you have done a riffle through the whole deck to complete the Off Table Straight Riffle.

Tips & Warnings
  • Utilize the Off Table Straight Riffle during a poker game. While one hand is being played, have someone who is out of the action prepare the next deck to keep game play moving.
