How to Demonstrate Beginner and Advanced Gymnastics Moves
Gymnastics moves are rated on a points system. The more challenging a skill is, the more points it's awarded. Points can be combined by eliminating the pauses between each move, a skill that only highly advanced gymnasts can perform.

Beginning Gymnast Moves
-
1
Arch your back to hold your body into proper position. Hold your legs perfectly straight and throw your shoulders back as far as you can without loosing your balance. The arch is used as a part of many moves, as well as in your final salute.
-
2
Perform a layout as a part of a flip, but hold your body in a similar position as when the body is upright. The legs remain extended with your knees unbent.
-
-
3
Tuck your body into a curled position during many flips. The tuck performed with your knees drawn tight to your chest and your arms wrapped around your knees to compact your body during flight in beginning gymnastics.
-
4
Pike your body by bending yourself in half at the waist while keeping your back and your legs straight.
Advanced Gymnastics Moves
-
5
Launch into a handspring by moving onto your hands and into a handstand. Then, allow your legs to move over your body and lift your shoulders to form a bridge.
-
6
Perform the punch front to change direction with one stark and sudden movement. The punch front is typically done at the end of a tumbling pass, either on the floor or the bar. Bend the knees slightly when landing one skill to immediately whip the body backward into the next skill.
-
7
Flip to perform a twist instead of just moving your body in a front or back rolling movement. A twist can also be added to increase the difficulty at every skill-level.
-
8
Practice a double back. The double back is two flips going backwards done with no break in between. This is an example of combining skills perform an advanced gymnast move. The double back is challenging enough to have become a unique skill of it's own.
