Things You'll Need:
- Piano
-
Step 1
Identify the G note, the first note of G major and G minor, on your piano. Count four white keys from middle C to find the G.
-
Step 2
Place your thumb on the G when you play with your right hand. Use your middle finger on the B note and your little finger on the D.
-
Step 3
Find G major with your left hand by reversing your thumb and little finger position. Your little finger takes the G note, while the thumb plays the D. The middle finger remains on B. Pianists play most of their chords with their left hand, but it's still a good idea to practice them with both hands.
-
Step 4
Recognize that you only have one difference between G major and G minor chords. Instead of playing B, you'll play B-flat. B-flat is the black key immediately to the left of the B note, or one-half step down.
-
Step 5
Practice G major by playing each note by itself and then all three notes together. Do the same with G minor.
-
Step 6
Familiarize yourself with playing G major and minor chords with frequent piano practice. You want all three fingers to strike G, B and D at the same time for an even sound.
-
Step 7
Remember that G major is one of 3 major chords that use all white keys (the others are C and F) on the piano.
