To assemble tent support rods you must keep in mind the importance of making sure the rods are completely joined before inserting them into the tent's designated guides. Not doing so can result in a damaged tent and an overall frustrating camping experience.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Remove the tent support rods from their distinct carrying case. These typically fiberglass rods should be joined by elastic cord inside the rods that allows them to collapse.

  2. Step 2

Lay the rods out flat on the ground and inspect them for damage, being especially attentive to frayed cords and chipped joints that might prevent a firm lock.

  3. Step 3

Join the rods together and make sure they are snugly locked in place. This is the essential structure of the tent, so it's important that the tent support rods are properly secured.

  4. Step 4

Run the rods through the designated channels along the top of the tent. You must be careful not to push too hard during this step or risk gouging the thin outer layer of the tent.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep equal pressure on each rod when joining two separate pieces together to eliminate slips that could lead to cord or support rod damage.
  • Always stow your tent support rods properly when putting your tent away. Tent rods damage very easily, and without them all you really have is a piece of useless material.
  • Never erect a tent with damaged tent support rods. This can damage the tent.
