How to Do Split Basic Aerobic Exercise

As its name implies, the split basic is one of the basic routines in step aerobics. Once you master this and a few other steps, you will be ready to put it all together for a complete routine set to music.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Step
  • Footwear with proper cushioning
  1. Step 1

    Place your step on the floor and face the platform lengthwise with your toes facing forward.

  2. Step 2

    Step up with your right foot, and then follow with your left.

  3. Step 3

    Tap the floor with the toe of your right foot and bring it back to the step. Do the same with your left foot.

  4. Step 4

    Bring your right foot to the floor, and then do the same with your left. You are back to your starting position.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat these steps beginning with your left foot.

  6. Step 6

    Choose music with a tempo that you can exercise to and do a routine based on this step. Once you have mastered this step, learn others so that you can vary your routine.

Tips & Warnings
  • While you may be tempted to look at your feet while learning aerobics steps, maintain good posture and look straight ahead. Standing in front of a mirror helps.
  • As you become more comfortable with the basics of step aerobics, add steps to your platform. This will make the workout more challenging.
  • Always warm up and cool down when doing aerobics so you don't get injured.
