It's not enough to kick or strike and then wait for a counter attack in taekwondo. As your taekwondo training becomes more advanced, you learn how to piece together basic moves into combinations, such as a front snap kick to lead hand jab to reverse punch to downward kick combo. Practice this combination for technique at first, and then add speed to the moves.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with a front snap kick by raising the knee of your back leg up to waist level. The general rule of physics here is that you want your knee to be slightly higher than your intended target.

  2. Step 2

Pull your toes back and extend the leg out toward your target. You strike with the ball of your foot.

  3. Step 3

Draw your leg back and set your foot down in front of the stationary leg.

  4. Step 4

Jab with your lead hand as you set your lead foot down from the front snap kick. Punches are horizontal in taekwondo, meaning the palm of your hand will be parallel with the floor.

  5. Step 5

Throw a reverse punch with the back fist after you draw your lead hand jab back to your body.

  6. Step 6

Raise your back leg up as high as possible in an arch from the outside to the inside to begin the downward kick.

  7. Step 7

Let your leg drop straight down, putting some force into it, to end the combination. You strike with your heel, and your target is the top of the head, nose, shoulder or chest.
