While you can go to any costume shop and buy a mask and outfit for Halloween, the real fun happens at home when you use movie special effects makeup to create your own monsters. Make yourself so scary that even you don't recognize your own reflection.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small disposable sponges
  • Foam latex appliance
  • Fake blood
  • Finishing powder
  • Water-based lubricant
  • Liquid latex
  • Spirit gum
  • Various sized paintbrushes
  1. Step 1

Pick a hideous creature to portray. Consider the clothes you will wear to go along with your new identity. If you're going to be a bloody mess, use old clothes.

  2. Step 2

Gather all the items needed before you begin your transformation. The makeup should be applied in order, and you don't want to have to run to store with half your makeup on to replenish your supplies. Entire kits are available with all the items you need for the transformation, but most of the items can be found around your house. Just don't plan on using them again.

  3. Step 3

Lather your face with a good face cream before you apply the makeup so that you can remove it easily when you are through scaring the heck out of everyone.

  4. Step 4

Put on the appliance with spirit gum, and powder the edges to take away the tackiness. Use the brushes to draw on your color--go heavy on red and browns for a truly bloody experience. Set the makeup with more dusting powder.
