How to Make a Pipe Cleaner Person

You can turn ordinary pipe cleaners into interesting shapes like animals and people. Make people in different sizes, and you will soon have a whole pipe cleaner family. Pipe cleaner people are easy enough for children to make.

• Pipe cleaners
• Wire cutters or scissors
• Pencil
• Accessories

1. Buy a bag of multi-colored 12-inch pipe cleaners. Choose a color for the arms and head. Choose another color for the upper body and a third color for the lower body.

2. Cut one 12-inch pipe cleaner in half so you are left with two 6-inch pieces. Twirl a piece around a pencil so you end up with a small coil like a head. Put it aside.

3. Cut the other 6-inch piece in half. Fold the end of one piece into a tiny loop. This becomes the hand on the end of the arm. Repeat with the other 6-inch piece. Set the arms aside.

4. Make an upper body from one of the long pipe cleaners by bending it into a hollow T-formation that looks like a t-shirt. Twirl the ends together to close the shirt at the top.

5. Use a long blue pipe cleaner to make the pants or legs. Cut the pipe cleaner in half and bend one of the smaller pieces into a long loop that does not close on the top. It will look like a long letter "U." Twist each end of the "U" shape to attach it to the upper body.

6. Attach the arms and hands by twisting them onto the arm placements of the upper body. Attach the head by twisting the end of the head onto the upper body. You now have the main body of a pipe cleaner person.

7. Add sequins for eyes and wool for hair. You can add stickers and cut out felt shapes to make the person look more lifelike.
