The paint gun can expedite most paint jobs. The gun also reduces drips and streaks when you use it to paint cars. You must prime the metal so the paint will stick to the car. Adding primer to the paint gun will make your job easier and the paint job smoother.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use a clean gun. If you've just cleaned the paint gun, make sure it's dry before adding primer. If it's been a while since you've used the paint gun, wipe it out with a damp rag. Clean all parts, including the nozzle.

  2. Step 2

Buy primer. Top quality primer is easier to use in the paint gun. Read the back panel before you buy it to find out if suits your application. The back panel also gives instructions about thinning the primer for a paint gun.

  3. Step 3

Use a strainer or a paper filter when you pour the primer into the paint gun. A strainer will remove impurities from the primer and dust particles floating in the air. Make sure you know how much primer to put in the gun before you start pouring it. Add the primer in a clean area so dust particles are reduced.

  4. Step 4

Place the lid on the paint gun and make sure it's secure. Attach the air hose to the paint gun and you're ready to put primer on the car.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use breathing protection or a mask when you paint.
