Binding is the method used to get a yo-yo to return to your hand. Most of the yo-yo's used for tricks and competitions will not return automatically. To return yours, you must create enough momentum for it to ride back up the string and into your palm.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Throw the yo-yo and stick out your first finger on your non-throwing hand.
Step2
Allow the yo-yo to wrap once around that finger and land on the taunt string between your index finger and your throwing hand.
Step3
Pull your finger down toward your knee on the same side as your throwing finger.
Step4
Continue this movement until the yo-yo is freed and shoots back into your hand. This is a binding yo-yo return.
Step5
Throw a trapeze by pulling your finger down into the yo-yo, the opposite of the motion you would to dismount the trapeze. This is another way to bind your yo-yo.
Step6
Perform a brain twister to bind your yo-yo. Pull your finger down into the yo-yo just as you did to bind during the trapeze.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can bind your yo-yo by doing almost any stall movement and dismounting the stall the opposite way from how you do it normally. This shoots the yo-yo back up the string rather than toward the end of the string, so you can continue to perform tricks.
