Gmail is Google's free email system. Its addresses allow storage of up to 2,500 megabytes of messages, which is more than most Web mail systems. Gmail lets users store thousands of emails for as long as they like. Because Gmail is a Web mail system, users can access it from anywhere that has an Internet connection.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a Gmail account. Google requires a first and last name, a login name and a password. The login name must be one that no one else with Gmail has. A security question and answer must also be chosen, in case your password is lost. New Gmail users also have to agree to the Gmail terms and conditions.

  2. Step 2

Begin sending and receiving email. Click the Compose Mail link to the left of the main account screen. This will open a new message page on which you can type up an email. You can attach files to it by clicking the "Attach a file" link just above the message box.

  3. Step 3

Read incoming emails. Create different folders to organize saved emails. Open each email and click on the "More Actions" drop-down menu. Choose New Label to create each new folder name. To place an email into a specific folder, go to the drop-down menu and click on the appropriate folder name. Then archive the email by clicking the Archive button above the email. The email will transfer into the folder.

  4. Step 4

Mark important email with a star. Look for the empty star symbol to the left of the sender's name. Click on that star to create a yellow star marker. To keep an email in bold, go to the drop-down menu and click on the Mark as Unread option.

  5. Step 5

Empty the spam or trash file. Click on that file and click on the delete link at the top of the file. If you forget to empty the spam file, it will automatically delete messages that are 30 days old.

  6. Step 6

Check your Web mail account from anywhere in the world, including mobile phones equipped with Internet access. The Gmail system can be accessed from any Internet terminal.
