When you search the Internet, you want to find what you need as soon as possible. To eliminate many of the spam websites, you can use an open directory to find the business or service that fits your search requirements. DMOZ is an open directory project that allows you to search different, specific websites.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Visit the DMOZ website. You'll automatically land on the search page of the website. There is a search toolbar as well as a list of searchable categories.
Step2
Type the name of the topic that you're looking for in the search bar. DMOZ then returns a list of open directory sites. Click on the name of the site to go to that website.
Step3
Use an advanced search to reduce the number of returned results that you receive. You can choose to only see categories, sites or both when searching for websites. Moreover, you're able to only get websites that fit into a certain category.
Step4
Browse websites by clicking on one of the listed DMOZ categories. You can then look through subcategories until you find a list of websites you want to search through. Each website includes a brief description of the content on the site.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each website listed on the DMOZ site is reviewed by a panel of editors. This ensures that the best web content appears on their provided sites.
  • To learn more about the DMOZ project, you can read the blog found on the site. You'll also find useful tips on searching the provided websites.
