1
Contact a bicycle shop. The owners and other patrons may know about the local BMX scene. You may find out where the closest track is, when the races are, how to enter and compete and learn other tips about riding, sponsorship and the other components of the BMX world.

2
Visit BMX races at your local track as a spectator. This will help you get a feel for the sports, how the races work and who the riders in your area are. Talk to some of the riders, officials and other track personnel after the race to get more information.

Invest in a good bike and the proper riding gear. This should include gloves, goggles, riding pants, riding jacket, helmet and riding boots. Most tracks will not allow you to race without the proper safety gear.

Show up at the track on race day. Unless the race is a championship that requires qualifying, you can enter in an amateur or age appropriate class and race. You have to show up early and find the registration tent or booth. Fill out the required paperwork and pay the fee.
