You track edits in Adobe Photoshop by creating an editing history log. This log saves all your edits so you can look back and use that information to repeat it, undo it or reference it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
Step1
Open Adobe Photoshop and choose the "Edit" menu, point to "Preferences" and click on "General" to open the "Preferences" dialog box.
Step2
Click the check box in front of "History Log" in the lower portion of the "Preferences" dialog box to activate the history log. When you check the box, you will be given further options for your history log.
Step3
Choose whether you want to save the history log items to metadata, a text file or both. If you choose to save to a text file or both metadata and a text file, the "Save" dialog box will pop up (if it doesn't, click the "Choose" button). Name the text file and browse to find a location where you would like to save the history log. Press the "Save" button to save the text file and close the "Save" dialog box.
Step4
Use the drop-down list to choose an option by "Edit Log Items." You can choose "Sessions Only," which will create a log only when a Photoshop document is closed. "Concise" will record sessions, as well as the text, in the history palette. "Detailed" will record sessions, history palette text and text that appears on the actions palette.
Step5
Click the "OK" button to close the "Preferences" dialog box and create your editing history log based on the settings you have chosen.
Step6
Access the editing history log when you need it, by opening the text or metadata file you saved on your computer.
