How to Travel With a Carsick Pet

A car ride can be a stressful experience if your pet is prone to carsickness. Even quick trips to the veterinarian may send your pet into a panic and cause him to make a nasty mess. Taking steps to care for your pet while traveling can help you make it through a difficult experience.

Instructions

1. Stop feeding your pet a few hours before she has to travel. Give her as much water as she wants.

2. Expose your pet to fresh air when you travel. Roll down a window and, if possible, allow your pet a view of the outside.

3. Medicate your pet. Make him comfortable enough to travel with a prescription from your veterinarian.

4. Take several breaks on long road trips. Allow your pet to get a drink of water or stretch her legs briefly throughout the trip.

5. Get your pet used to a carrier. Place one in your house and let your pet discover it on its own. Travel with your pet often. Start by taking small trips with your pet to get it used to the idea of being in a vehicle.
