Your engine's cooling system contributes to the well-being and proper operation of your vehicle. Maintaining this system is important and you should have the basic knowledge to treat any problems as quickly as possible. Understanding how to use an engine hose clamp can help you with that.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Identify the clamp. When you are under the hood, look a cylindrical shape that often is attached around the end of the radiator hose, and possibly other hoses. The clamp will have a slight tail with a screw holding together the tail pieces and the hose.

  2. Step 2

Use a screwdriver to loosen this screw. You don't have to take it all the way out unless you are removing or replacing the hose clamp. When you work with a hose secured with a clamp, loosen it just enough to move, and then retighten it so you don't lose any pieces.

  3. Step 3

Look for a clamp that fits your project. They can be found at any automotive parts store and are usually inexpensive. If you don't know the size of the clamp you are looking for, ask for help from a store associate.

  4. Step 4

Reinstall a new hose clamp by removing the screw completely. Spread the opening just enough to get around the hose you are clamping. Put the screw back in loosely, just to hold the clamp on the hose and fit the clamp into position on the hose. Tighten the screw to hold the clamp in place.
