1
Ask your friend about gender. If your friend as a man and now dresses as a woman, he may want to be treated and referred to as a woman. Set your mind to think and act as if this person is a female and vice-versa if the cross-dresser is a woman.
-
2
Listen to your friend when he wants to talk. Allow him to express his feelings as he wishes. Life is hard for a cross-dresser. It helps to have someone to talk to when life gets overwhelming.

3
Show your friend that you care about him as a person first, no matter what type of clothes he wears. Continue to invite him out, make sure to call regularly and never forget a special event or birthday.
-
4
Help him find community resources and support. You can find these in local newspapers, gay and lesbian magazines and newspapers or online.
-
5
Encourage him to find cross-dressing friends. You will not lose his friendship, just because he finds new friends. So don't be upset when he goes out with these new friends.
-
6
Attend public and private functions with him cross-dressed. This will show that you accept this side of him without worrying what others may think or say.
-
7
Refrain from giving your unsolicited opinion on how or why your friend became a cross-dresser. This often comes across as a judgement and makes your friend feel as if there is something wrong with being a cross-dresser.
