How to Compete in Airgun Shooting Events

Airgun shooting is big with gun enthusiasts who like a safe way to target practice and enjoy gun events and competitions. Whereas the laws in many states are complicated when it comes to standard gun ownership, airgun ownership is hassle-free. Airgun sports have become so popular that airgun shooting events have been added to the Olympics.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact state or national airgun associations, such as "American Airguns," "USA Shooting," "WLOPA-AIR" or "Utah Shooting Sports Council" to find information, participate in airgun activities and compete in airgun shooting events. Discover events like the Olympic Airgun Team Trials and other competitions, such as air rifle and air pistol championships.

    • 2

Get involved with local gun clubs and other sports orfitness clubs that offer target practice or allow you to compete in airgun shooting events. Create your own airgun shooting club if you don't find any in your area and hold competitions.

    • 3

Sign up for competitions through an airgun association and decide which type of event you want to enter. You can participate in different kinds of shoots, such as a Turkey Shoot or a Sportsman Hunter Class shoot. Each shoot has its own set of rules, and shoots can be held either indoors or outdoors.

    • 4

Note that informal competitions are usually just for locals, and they follow rules defined by the local club. More formal national competitions follow nationally and internationally recognized regulations and rules. National competitors take their sport more seriously and come to compete from across the country. In most cases, these competitors' scores are compared and ranked nationally and internationally.

    • 5

Compete in popular airgun shooting sport events, such as the biathlon, which is a Winter Olympic Sport that combines airgun rifle shooting with cross-country skiing. Train for speed as well as for accuracy. Shoot in the Conventional Pistol competition to compete with shooters in your same class. Participate in the Smallbore Pistol event, which is usually held indoors during the winter.

    • 6

Enjoy Smallbore, Conventional Highpower and International Rifle shooting competitions and shotgun events. Practice long range shooting for rifle events and follow the official guidelines and regulations.
