Vinyl pools are a great way to cool off in the summer. Inexpensive vinyl pools can last several seasons if you mend tears before they get out of hand. Mending a vinyl pool tear properly will make your pool water tight and ready for summer fun.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Inspect your vinyl pool at the beginning of the season for cracks or tears before filling with water. Look at areas that have unusual folds or creases or areas near ladders, filters or places where you enter or leave the pool.
Step2
Use the vinyl repair kit enclosed with your vinyl pool, or purchase a kit from your local pool supply store.
Step3
Make sure the area needing repair is clean and dry.
Step4
Remove any frayed edge around the tear. Usually shaving it a bit with a utility knife is adequate.
Step5
Wipe off the area around the tear with a little rubbing alcohol to remove any small debris that might keep the patch from sticking. Let dry.
Step6
Cover the tear with the adhesive provided in your vinyl repair kit or purchase a heavy-duty, waterproof vinyl adhesive from the pool supply store.
Step7
Cut a piece of vinyl patch from the repair kit large enough to cover the hole with about ½ inch to spare around the edges. Press the patch into place and hold for a few minutes until it is sealed and firmly attached.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let the repair dry thoroughly before filling the pool with water. Allowing it to dry overnight will ensure a strong seal.
