Cigarette butts left in an ash tray can emit as much smoke and odor as a lit cigarette. You can reclaim your house and your sense of smell with a few odor removing tips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Fill your ash tray with enough baking soda to completely submerge the butts. Extinguish cigarette butts in the baking soda. The baking soda acts absorbs odor from the butts in the ashtray and the smoke in the air.
Step2
Launder your clothes and draperies frequently, including jackets or overcoats. The odor from your cigarettes permeates your clothing and your draperies and can make the stench linger long after the cigarette is out.
Step3
Clean furniture and carpets with baking soda. Liberally sprinkle the soda onto your furniture, rub it in, allow it to sit overnight and vacuum it off the next morning. Repeat this process until the smell disappears. Do this a few times a month to keep on top of the cigarette odor.
Step4
Fill a tub with a solution of 1 cup vinegar to 2 cups of water and a few scoops of baking soda. Use this solution to wash your walls and floors.
Step5
Leave your windows and doors open as much as possible. Leaving them open all day, every day, is the best option for ridding your house of the cigarette odor left behind by butts and smoke.
Step6
Simmer a pot of water filled with lemon, lime or orange slices on the stove all day. These citrus smells nmask the cigarette odor and purify the air.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use the vinegar solution to wash tile floors. It corrodes the sealant and can mark marble or granite tiles.

on 7/23/2008 Interesting tips! I have a very sensitive nose for odors and nothing I’ve used has worked better than the RGF Guardian Air Plug in Plus. I have one in my basement, bedroom, and next to the cat litter box! It eliminates those funky smells and makes me feel good about my house. I’d recommend it to everyone!
