Step 1
Prepare your furniture for painting. Remove all hardware and then tape over any glass or mirrors that you don't want painted. Fill in any nail holes or scratches with wood filler. Lightly sand the furniture piece with a fine-grit sandpaper and dust any residue off.
-
Step 2
Put on a base coat. Apply one coat of paint with a foam brush. Most surfaces require two coats to cover properly. Let the piece dry for at least two hours before proceeding to the next step.
-
Step 3
Paint the veins of the marble. Apply your second paint color to the tip of a feather, then drag it across the furniture's surface to create a vein. You may want to look at a real piece of marble for examples of how the veins should look. Allow it to dry for five minutes before proceeding.

Step 4
Mix together equal parts of your first paint color and a polyacrylic gloss to create a top coat for your furniture. The gloss will lighten the color so that you can see the veins through the top coat. Apply the mixture with a damp sea sponge to soften the veining and make it appear more natural. Let it dry for several hours before finishing with a clear coat or two of polyacrylic gloss.
