How to Ask Parents for a Mature Video Game

You're dying to own the brand new video game that came out for your gaming system, but the box has that "M for Mature" on it, and your parents have a no M-rating games rule. There are some things you can do to convince your parents you're ready for that video game.

1. Pay for it yourself. Take the "not enough money" excuse completely out of the equation. Saving up the money yourself is also a great way to convince your parents you're maturing.

2. Figure out why the game got an M-rating. If it was for language, you may be able to convince your parents your ears aren't that delicate. If it was for sex or violence, you may have a harder time.

3. Suggest renting the game so your parents can play it first with your showing them how. They may learn this specific game isn't so bad. This is also a good way to spend some extra time with your parents.

4. Promise to play in the main family room so your parents can keep an eye on you and the game. This a good compromise if the gaming system is in your bedroom.

5. Talk to your parents in a mature fashion. Write out what you're going to say and be respectful throughout the talk. Don't interrupt, don't cry, whine or become angry. Convince them you're a mature young adult with your behavior, someone who can handle an M-rated video game.
